Lena Safaniouk
Toronto, Canada
Lena Safaniouk is a Russian-Canadian artist whose work explores presence, memory, and the emotional relationship between people and the natural world. Working primarily in oil, she creates atmospheric compositions shaped by texture, movement, and layered translucency — balancing restraint with organic expression.
Originally trained in Russia and later continuing her artistic education in Canada under the mentorship of an established Canadian painter, Safaniouk developed a practice informed by both classical technique and contemporary sensibility. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Canada, the United States, and Russia, and is held in private collections internationally.
Now working between Toronto and Costa Rica, her recent paintings reflect a growing pull toward slower rhythms, instinctive mark-making, and a more intimate connection to place. Drawing from childhood memories of summers spent in nature — fields of wildflowers, shifting light, quiet observation — her work transforms familiar organic forms into immersive studies of texture, softness, and atmosphere.
Through layered oils and magnified natural detail, Safaniouk creates spaces that invite stillness and attention — offering a subtle counterpoint to the pace and overstimulation of modern life.
